Rollers and hinges
Worn metal rollers and dry hinges are the most common noise sources. Sealed nylon rollers make a big difference.
The opener
Chain-drive openers are louder by nature. A belt-drive or wall-mount opener is much quieter, especially under bedrooms.
Loose hardware
Vibration loosens bolts and brackets over time. A tune-up tightens everything and catches worn parts early.
